EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

to login click here This is an Open and Mobile Learning CLASSROOM 2.0. web environment for students and teachers from different countries in the world to meet and to get to know each other and become friends. It has been awarded the Innovative Modern Foreign Language Label by the European Commission and the Dutch, Turkish and Bulgarian Ministries of Education: teachers of European countries work together integrating their subject matter in a curriculum of European and Global Citizenship. The model we propose is theme-based, project based collaboration. The students get involved in projects that include at least 1 class somewhere else in the world. Within the classes teachers usually use cooperative learning techniques for the students to carry out the projects. The implications of joining such projects for language teachers are:

  • Teachers are able to face students with real audiences
  • Teachers are able to involve students in writing and reading with a meaningful purpose
  • Teachers provide students with opportunities to communicate and interact.

E-Citizenship

I would like to hear what you think of this idea of setting up E-Citizenship as part of a new European curriculum? Would you like to become one of the teachers / co-editors of this new European webbased subject? What are your ideas on content?

Created on a European level by pupils and their teachers from all European countries, using high-tech means of international communication.

Visser 't Hooft Lyceum is Elos School
by Sg Beheer - woensdag, 27 september 2006, 09:44

Visser 't Hooft Lyceum is Elos School

‘Elos’ stands for ‘Europe as a learning environment in schools’. It is both a school programme and a (Comenius 3) network of the European Platform.

What are the general aims of the Elos network?

The European Elos network aims for high-level education, which explicitly includes the reality of the European Union and prepares students at secondary general level (age 12-19, all school types) for their roles as European citizens, by immersing them in a European learning environment.
